We Give Glory to God
Call to Worship: “Matthew 11:28-29”
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Hymn of Acclamation: “Jesus Paid it All”
Hall, 1865
I hear the Savior say: “Thy strength indeed is small”
Child of weakness, watch and pray, find in me thine all in all.
Chorus
Jesus paid it all! All to Him I owe.
Sin had left a crimson stain;
He washed it white as snow.
Lord now indeed I find; thy power and thine alone
Can change the leper’s spots, and melt the heart of stone.
Repeat Chorus
And when before the throne, I stand in Him complete
Jesus died my soul to save, my lips shall still repeat.
Repeat Chorus
O praise the One who paid my debt,
And raised this life up from the dead! (REPEAT)
Repeat Chorus
We Mourn the Reality of Sin
Hymn of Confession: “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” Robinson, 1758
Come, thou fount of every blessing;
Tune my heart to sing thy grace.
Streams of mercy, never-ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it.
Mount of thy redeeming love.
Here I raise my Ebenezer;
Hither by thy help I’ve come.
And I hope, by thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God.
He to rescue me from danger,
Interposed his precious blood.
O, to grace, how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to thee.
Prone to wander, Lord I feel it!
Prone to leave the God I love!
Here’s my heart, Lord: Take and seal it.
Seal it for thy courts above.
Prayer of confession
Eternal and merciful God,
you have loved us with a love beyond our understanding,
You have set us on paths of righteousness for your name’s sake; Yet, we have strayed from your way;
We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, through what we have done and what we have left undone, and we have wandered from your pathway.
As we remember your grace, O God, we praise you and give you thanks that you forgive us yet again.
Grant us now, we pray, the grace to die daily to sin, and to rise daily to new life in Christ, who lives and reigns with you,
In whose strong name we pray. Amen.
We Celebrate Christ as Our Redeemer
Assurance of Pardon: “1 Timothy 2:5-6”
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.
Hymn of Redemption: “Mediator”
Huxford, 2013
He takes our place
and stands in front of God on high
He speaks on our behalf
since we don’t have the right
He pleads before the God who judges hearts of men
Our Mediator served the sentence for our sin
CHORUS
There is only one God
There is only one Mediator
Standing between God and man
He’s the only way to salvation
He found the captives
Broke the bondage of our chains
We have redemption through
The price that He has paid
He gave his life to purchase freedom from the fall
Our mediator was the ransom for us all
REPEAT CHORUS
The man Jesus Christ, Who gave us His life
The man Jesus Christ, The last sacrifice
The eternal Son, Messiah has come
REPEAT CHORUS 2x
Reading: “Matthew 10:34-42”
34 “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.36 And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household.37 Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
40 “Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. 41 The one who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and the one who receives a righteous person because he is a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. 42 And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”
Prayer for the Proclamation of God’s Word
Sermon: “Not Peace, but a Sword”
Ian Conrey – Matthew 10:34-4
We Respond to the Gospel
Hymn of Response: “Jesus, Thank You”
Sczebel, 2003
The mystery of the cross I cannot comprehend,
The agonies of Calvary.
You, the Perfect Holy One, crushed Your Son,
Drank the bitter cup reserved for me.
CHORUS
Your blood has washed away my sin,
Jesus, thank You.
The Father’s wrath completely satisfied,
Jesus, thank You.
Once Your enemy, now seated at Your table,
Jesus, thank You.
By Your perfect sacrifice I’ve been brought near,
Your enemy you’ve made Your friend.
Pouring out the riches of Your glorious grace,
Your mercy and your kindness know no end.
REPEAT CHORUS
Lover of my soul – I want to live for you (REPEAT)
REPEAT CHORUS
Commissioning of the Church
Hymn of New Creation: “We Will Feast (In the House of Zion)” McCracken, 2015
CHORUS
We will feast in the house of Zion
We will sing with our hearts restored
He has done great things, we will say together
We will feast and weep no more
We will not be burned by the fire
He is the LORD our God
We are not consumed, by the flood
Upheld, protected, gathered up
REPEAT CHORUS
In the dark of night, before the dawn
My soul, be not afraid
For the promised morning, oh how long?
Oh God of Jacob, be my strength
REPEAT CHORUS
Every vow we’ve broken and betrayed
You are the Faithful One
And from the garden to the grave
Bind us together, bring shalom.
REPEAT CHORUS
