Lord Jesus: you are the One in whom people from every tribe, tongue, nation, and language will be eternally blessed.
Forgive us for seeking blessing elsewhere.
We define our prosperity by our bank accounts, our cars, our homes, and our expenditures – rather than in the depth of your saving grace for us.
Forgive us for seeking blessing elsewhere.
We set our budgets, our calendars, and our other priorities in relation to the here-and-now, rather than in the Eternity you have purchased for us.
Forgive us for seeking blessing elsewhere.
We run after the vain praises of other people, rather than delighting in the Father’s approval that you have already won for us.
Forgive us for seeking blessing elsewhere.
We have erred: both in retreating blindly from our fears and in chasing fool-heartedly after our hopes, rather than by walking with you and keeping your commandments.

We ask you to bless what we do, rather than doing what you bless.

Lord Jesus: thank you for your mercy towards sinners like us. By the power of your Spirit, convict us each of the ways we have sought blessing in things, people, and places other than you.
