Activity 1: Boys vs Girls

Form two teams: boys and girls.  Have one boy and one girl go at a time. Call out a letter. The first player to name an animal that begins with that letter earns a point for their team.  Play additional rounds with new players.

SAY: Today’s Bible story is about a time when Jesus stopped and talked to a woman from Samaria.  Jewish men usually did not speak to women in public, but Jesus was not like the other Jews.  Jesus loved everyone.  We will find out more about what Jesus said to the Samaritan woman. 

Activity 2: Water Relay

Form a single file line with your family members.  Position a bucket of water at the beginning of the line and an empty bucket at the end of the line.  Each player will need a plastic cup and these are the instructions:   
1. The first player should scoop water into their cup and then pour the water in the     second players cup.   
2. The second player will pour the water into the third players cup, and so on     down the line.   
3. The last player will dump the water into the empty bucket.   
4. As soon as the first player has emptied their cup, they may scoop more water     to pass down the line. 
The goal is to get as much water to the empty bucket as you can!

SAY: In today’s Bible story, Jesus met a woman at the well. The woman had to walk to the well every day to get water.  Jesus offered the woman living water so she would never be thirsty again.  Let’s find out what Jesus was talking about.

We praise you continually, Lord. You give us permission to approach your throne of grace, and to freely spread our wants and desires before you.

We praise you, Lord Jesus!

We are not worthy of your blessings and mercies, because we fall so far short of your righteous standards. Our sin-natures reveal themselves in disobedience and rebellion; in discontent, pride, envy, and revenge. By nature and by choice, we betray you every day.

Forgive us, Lord Jesus!

Remember not our sins – sins we pursued in our youth, sins we are presently pursuing, and sins we will commit against you in the future:

Failing to use time and talents for your glory
Abusing your mercies and means
Wasting your Sabbath Rest
Indulging your grace, letting sin abound uncontested
Neglecting your salvation in our gospel-amnesia
Disregarding you, O Friend of Sinners

Forgive us, Lord Jesus!

As we confess our guilt, let us feel it deeply

Prayer for the Proclamation of God’s Word 

Sermon: “Jesus Teaches Us to Pray”
Davis Lacey – Matthew 6:7-15

Main point: prayer is not first and foremost a way for us to bring OUR desires up before God – but rather a way through which God brings HISdesires to pass THROUGH us.

1. Things we need FOR God (vv. 9-10)
   1. “On earth as it is in heaven”
   1. “Hallowed be your name”
   1. “Your kingdom come, your will be done”
2. Things we need FROM God (vv. 11-15)
   1. “Daily bread”
   1. “Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors”
   1. “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”

“We can hear heaven’s ‘YES’ to our prayers, because Jesus heard heaven’s ‘NO’ to his prayer in Gethsemane…”
