Preliminaries: Welcome and Announcements
Ridge Kids – see today’s Order of Worship online at (www.AutumnRidgeCommunityChurch.com) to access a Bible lesson, and coloring sheet!
Activity 1: 20 Questions
As a family, play 20 questions. Explain that you are thinking of a place. Kids may take turns asking up to 20 yes-or-no questions to try to figure out what place you are thinking of. For example, “Do you go here every day?” “Is this place warm?” or “Is this place crowded?”Keep track of how many questions kids ask. If they are unable to guess the place after 20 questions, reveal the answer. Play multiple rounds. (Suggested places: school, church, aquarium, library)
SAY- Great job figuring out the places I was thinking of. Today we are going to hear a Bible story about Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Mary and Joseph couldn’t find Jesus, and they looked everywhere for Him. Let’s read to find out where they found Him!
Activity 2: Where does it belong?
Whisper one of the following words to each family member, each person should have a different word: astronaut, surgeon, basketball player, fire fighter, construction worker.
Instruct them to draw the environment or location where their person would be found. Tell kids not to draw their character on the picture, just the environment. When everyone is finished, display each drawing and guess what person belongs in the place drawn on each paper.
SAY- You wouldn’t be surprised to see each of these people in their environments; that’s where they belong! In today’s Bible story, Mary and Joseph couldn’t find Jesus, but they found Him exactly where He was supposed to be! We will find out soon where He was.

We Give Glory to God
Call to Worship: “John 8:36”
36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
Pastoral Prayer
Hymn of Acclamation: “Only a Holy God”
CityAlight – 2016
Who else commands all the hosts of heaven
Who else could make every king bow down
Who else can whisper and darkness trembles
Only a Holy God
What other beauty demands such praises
What other splendour outshines the sun
What other majesty rules with justice
Only a Holy God
(Chorus)
Come and behold Him
The One and the Only
Cry out, sing holy
Forever a Holy God
Come and worship the Holy God
What other glory consumes like fire
What other power can raise the dead
What other name remains undefeated
Only a Holy God
(Chorus)
Who else could rescue me from my failing
Who else would offer His only Son
Who else invites me to call Him Father
Only a Holy God
Only my Holy God!
(Chorus)
We Mourn The Reality of sin
Bill Iverson: “Lamenting the Persecution of the Global Church”
Hymn of Lament: “Let the Nations be Glad”
Boswell, and Papa, 2012
Let the glory of the Lord forever be our joy
May redemption be the theme of our song.
For by grace we have been saved
And by grace we shall proclaim
To the corners of the earth that Christ has come.
CHORUS
Let the nations be glad, let the people rejoice
For salvation belongs to our God
Let the whole earth be filled
With the praises of the Lord
For salvation belongs to our God
Let the nations be glad
Through the ages gone before
Through the trial and the sword
Many saints and martyrs conquered though they died.
Still we’re holding out the cross
Crossing oceans, suffering loss
Shall endure all things to win the crown of life.
REPEAT CHORUS
As your holy church goes forth, in the Holy Spirit’s power
With the glories of the Gospel to explain.
Now we pray Your kingdom come
And we pray Your will be done
For the honor and the glory of Your name.
REPEAT CHORUS
Reading: “Matthew 5:27-30”
27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery. 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell.30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.
Prayer for the Proclamation of God’s Word
Sermon: “How to Starve the Sin of Lust”
Davis Lacey – Matthew 5:21-26
Why does Jesus make such a big deal about lust? Because lust distorts the heart of God for us!
- As we lust, we use the people that God has created to bring us GAIN and GLORY
- God’s design is that we instead use OUR lives to bring HIM glory and OTHERS gain
How do we fight lust?

Hymn of Confession/Lament: “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” Robinson, 1758
Come, thou fount of every blessing;
tune my heart to sing thy grace.
Streams of mercy, never-ceasing,
call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet
sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it.
Mount of thy redeeming love.
Here I raise my Ebenezer;
hither by thy help I’ve come.
And I hope, by thy good pleasure,
safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
wandering from the fold of God.
He to rescue me from danger,
interposed his precious blood.
O, to grace, how great a debtor
daily I’m constrained to be!
Let thy goodness, like a fetter,
bind my wandering heart to thee.
Prone to wander, Lord I feel it!
Prone to leave the God I love!
Here’s my heart, Lord: Take and seal it.
Seal it for thy courts above.
We Celebrate Christ as Our Redeemer
Assurance of Pardon: “Romans 5:6-8”
6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Hymn of Redemption: “A Mighty Fortress is Our God”
Martin Luther, 1527?
A mighty fortress is our God
A bulwark never failing
Our helper He amid the flood
Of mortal ills prevailing
For still our ancient foe
Does seek to work us woe
His craft and power are great
And armed with cruel hate
On earth is not his equal
If we in our own strength confide
Our striving would be losing
Were not the right Man on our side
The Man of God’s own choosing
You ask who that may be
Christ Jesus it is He!
The Lord of Hosts His name
From age to age the same
And He must win the battle
And though this world with devils filled
Should threaten to undo us
We will not fear for God has willed
His truth to triumph through us
And though this world with devils filled
Should threaten to undo us
We will not fear for God has willed
His truth to triumph through us
Call: A Mighty Fortress is our God
Response: His kingdom is forever (REPEAT)
His Kingdom is forever! (REPEAT)
If we in our own strength confide
Our striving would be losing
We Respond to the Gospel
Hymn of Response/New Creation: “We Will Feast (In the House of Zion)” McCracken, 2015
CHORUS
We will feast in the house of Zion
We will sing with our hearts restored
He has done great things, we will say together
We will feast and weep no more
We will not be burned by the fire
He is the LORD our God
We are not consumed, by the flood
Upheld, protected, gathered up
REPEAT CHORUS
In the dark of night, before the dawn
My soul, be not afraid
For the promised morning, oh how long?
Oh God of Jacob, be my strength
REPEAT CHORUS
Every vow we’ve broken and betrayed
You are the Faithful One
And from the garden to the grave
Bind us together, bring shalom.
REPEAT CHORUS
